Harmonikids Hohner-Sponsored Session To Boys And Girls Club Of Hollywood

    15 December, 2022

On December 9, 2022 I provided a Hohner-sponsored Harmonikids session to a gymnasium full of 70 underprivileged children from low income families at the the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood, CA. All students were fully focused and engaged throughout the 90 minute session. The room was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. The kids giggled with joy and astonishment as I entertained them. Then each was thrilled as I handed them new Hohner harmonicas on which I gently taught them to accurately play songs including holiday favorites. They beamed with pride at their immediate success. It made a positive difference in the lives of these youth - joyfully boosting their confidence and self esteem. For most it was the first experience of learning to make music on a real musical instrument. The many benefits of the session are described by the facility’s youth program coordinator Erwin Guzman in his thank you letter below.

On behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood, we would just like to say thank you so much for the Harmonikids session. Not only did you have a wonderful and informative presentation, but our kids really had a great time. They had fun learning the history of the harmonica and had even more fun when you taught them how to play one. I’ve never seen a group of 70 kids together learn and play an instrument they probably had never seen, heard or touched before so well. They really appreciate the harmonicas you generously donated. Most of them couldn’t stop talking about it after the presentation was over. Thank you for giving our kids the opportunity to have an instrument that is so portable and fun to play with. Most of our kids don’t have the luxury or opportunity to play musical instruments, so we truly appreciate you helping our kids out. Some of our kids love playing musical instruments because it is a means of entertainment, a stress reliever, or even a way to just keep themselves busy instead of spending time on an electronic mobile device. So for them to have a harmonica of their own, I am positive you have just made their winter break special. Again, thank you and have a wonderful rest of the year. Would love to do this again the near future.
